South Alabama men’s tennis lost a close match to Louisiana, 4-3, at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on April 4. The contest marked the regular-season finale for South Alabama, which finished with a record of nine wins and ten losses.
The outcome was decided by singles matches after both teams split victories in doubles play. Louisiana secured wins in doubles matches one and three, while South Alabama won the second doubles match. In singles competition, South Alabama’s Victor Frumholz extended his winning streak to four matches and Adam Bouyacoub earned his third consecutive singles victory. Senior Juan Accossatto was honored before the match for his contributions to the team, having accumulated 33 singles and 32 doubles wins during his time with the Jaguars.
Head coach Nick Brochu said, “Today was a really good battle. I think we did good, it was just so sad to see how it turned out for Juan. He was playing so well on his senior day, but then the cramps came and there was nothing he could do. Overall, we just struggle staring. We need to start so much faster. It’s hard to dig yourself out of a hole when you lose the doubles point, then get down on multiple courts in singles. Give Louisiana credit, they did enough to win today. Now we just have to get healthy and in shape for conference.”
With this loss concluding their regular season schedule, South Alabama will now prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament scheduled to begin Thursday, April 16 in Rome, Georgia.
The team’s focus shifts toward improving health and readiness ahead of postseason play.
