South Alabama men’s tennis lost 4-1 to Jacksonville State on March 29 in a match played in Jacksonville, Alabama. The contest was the second for South Alabama in as many days.
The outcome is significant as it marks the first time Jacksonville State has defeated South Alabama in program history. The loss also ended a three-match losing streak for the Jaguars.
In doubles play, Jacksonville State secured wins at courts two and three. Milosavlijevic and Soller defeated Accossatto and Bouyacoub 6-2, while Fatu and Penman won over Frumholz and Raemdonck 6-1. The top doubles match between Hannig/Yigin (USA) and De Visser/Krasner (JSU) was unfinished with JSU leading.
During singles competition, Adam Bouyacoub earned the only point for South Alabama by defeating Fatu of JSU 6-3, 6-4. Other matches saw Penman (JSU) defeat Accossatto (USA), Dahiya (JSU) win over Raemdonck (USA), and Milosavlijevic (JSU) beat Yigin (USA). Several matches were left unfinished due to clinching scenarios.
Head coach Nick Brochu said, “Good battle, but overall, we need to have a better start. They came out of the gates really aggressive in doubles, and at two and three we were really surprised. In singles, we had a hard time adjusting. It took some guys an entire set to find their groove. I think we dug ourselves into a hole that was just too big to get out of.”
Looking ahead, South Alabama will return home for its final pair of matches this season against Georgia Southern on Friday, April 3 and Louisiana on Saturday, April 4.
