South Alabama’s men’s tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Jackson State on Friday in Mobile. The Jaguars won two of the three doubles matches and took five out of six singles contests.
In doubles play, the teams of Hannig/Yigin and Accossatto/Raemdonck both posted 6-2 wins for South Alabama, while Bouyacoub/Frumholz fell to Ayar/Fallas from Jackson State 4-6.
Singles victories came from Accossatto, Raemdonck, Hannig, Yigin, and Bouyacoub. Frumholz was defeated by Yu in a close match that ended 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
With this win, South Alabama remains undefeated at home this season with a 2-0 record and has extended its home winning streak to three matches dating back to last season. The Jaguars have never lost to Jackson State in program history.
Head coach Nick Brochu reached his 249th career win with the team. Brochu commented on the team’s performance: “The goal was to carry the level and momentum from when we played LSU, and I thought the guys did a good job. Doubles, we really had good energy. We started very strong. In singles we didn’t joke around, we played our game and made it about us. We dropped one singles match, but it was a good fight all around. I was very pleased that the guys with a chance to win early, did. They closed the door right away. Now we have a few days to relax, then we’ve got to get right back to work. We have a big battle coming up with FAU.”
The team’s upcoming match against Samford has been postponed due to expected inclement weather.
