South Alabama men’s tennis team defeated North Florida 4-3 after coming back from a 3-1 deficit, according to a March 13 announcement. The match, which began Thursday but was postponed due to rain, resumed Friday morning in Jacksonville, Florida.
The result brings South Alabama’s season record to 5-7. The match was tied at 1-1 when play resumed on Friday. South Alabama lost the first two singles matches of the day before winning the next three to secure the overall victory.
Juan Accossatto, Jules Caby, Victor Frumholz and Harold van Raemdonck each earned singles wins for South Alabama after previously losing in doubles or earlier singles matches. In doubles play, North Florida won two out of three matches.
Head coach Nick Brochu said, “Great win today. It was a little different because we started the match yesterday. Doubles didn’t go our way at all, but we went into singles and had to refocus. We won five first sets but UNF is a really good team and they battled back. We came out this morning early and it was no longer a marathon, it was a race with so many matches already in the third set. We had so many guys come up clutch to help us clinch.”
The Jaguars are scheduled to return home for upcoming matches against Samford on March 20 and Southern Miss on March 22.
