South Alabama Men’s Tennis competed in its second fall tournament of the season at Auburn University’s Battle on the Plains. The team saw several notable performances in both singles and doubles play.
Harold van Raemdonck was a standout in singles, advancing through multiple rounds. He began by defeating Gregoire Delattre from Georgia Southern 5-7, 7-5, 6-0. He then overcame Johnathan Irwanto of Georgia Tech with scores of 7-5, 7-6 (5), and followed up with a win against Matteo Lataste from Alabama State, finishing 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Van Raemdonck lost his final match 2-6, 6-2, 2-6.
In doubles competition, Juan Accossatto and Jules Caby secured a first-round victory over UAB with a score of 7-6 (4). They later defeated Clemson’s Nittmann and Pitts by a margin of 6-4. Another pair from South Alabama, Victor Frumholz and Adam Bouyacoub, also achieved a first-round win against Lipscomb with a score of 6-1.
Head coach Nick Brochu commented on the team’s efforts: “I think the guys are improving. The team is more competitive every week. The good thing is we had some guys who did not play well at all, but still were able to compete and come up on top getting some wins. It’s always good to see that whether they’re playing good or bad, they’re still putting up a fight.”
The team will next participate in the ITA Regionals in Tuscaloosa from October 9 to October 12.
