South Alabama men’s golf finished in a tie for fourteenth place at the Louisiana Classics, recording a team score of 866 (+2) after the final round on March 10 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The tournament featured a field of sixteen teams and began with a continuous 36-hole day on Monday. South Alabama was paired with Texas A&M, ranked twenty-ninth nationally, and Little Rock, ranked forty-eighth. The Jaguars posted rounds of 288 (even par), 288 (even par), and 290 (+2) to share fourteenth place with Texas State.

Texas A&M secured the team victory with a total score of 840 (-24). Maland Potgeiger from Louisiana won the individual title. For South Alabama, Hugo Thyr led the team by tying for twenty-ninth individually with rounds of 70-68-76 (-2). Other notable performances included Josh Hill tying for fortieth at even par and Filip Svendsen tying for fifty-fourth at three over par.

Head Coach Ben Hannan said, “It’s such a fine line in this sport. Everyone competes at a high level and there is no room for error. Like our home event, we made plenty of birdies and had stretches of very good golf, but made too many mistakes throughout the week. This group has plenty of talent and has shown the ability to play at a high level, but we’ve got to quit beating ourselves. That is where our focus will be moving forward.”

The Jaguars are scheduled to compete next at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Georgia from March 20 to March 22.
