South Alabama’s men’s golf team is set to compete in the Louisiana Classics tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana. The event will take place at Oakbourne Country Club from March 9 to 10, with the format featuring 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN+ starting at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
The field includes 16 teams: South Alabama, Louisiana, Illinois State, Little Rock, Oral Roberts, Michigan, Texas State, East Tennessee State, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, Lamar, Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas and Southern Illinois.
South Alabama’s lineup features Hugo Thyr (senior), Filip Svendsen (sophomore), Tim Kretschmann (sophomore), Samir Davidov (senior), Josh Hill (junior), and Cole Haygood (senior) competing as an individual. Thyr has consistently finished inside the top-20 individually in all five tournaments this season. The Jaguars have averaged a team stroke average of 280.35 and an individual stroke average of 70.09.
The team achieved a No. 54 national ranking after placing in the top five in all four fall tournaments but finished tenth at their spring opener.
