South Alabama men’s golf finished in seventh place at the Mossy Oak Collegiate tournament, according to an April 14 announcement. The event marked the team’s final regular season competition before postseason play begins.
The tournament is significant as it serves as a benchmark for the Jaguars ahead of the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships. The team recorded a total score of 880, or 16 over par, after three rounds at Mossy Oak Golf Club.
Hugo Thyr led South Alabama with his seventh top-20 finish in eight tournaments this season, tying for sixteenth place after shooting a final round score of 68. Other contributors included Tim Kretschmann (T33), Josh Hill (T40), Samir Davidov (T64), and Filip Svendsen (T92).
Head Coach Ben Hannan said, “We showed a great display of golf through rounds 1 and 2 in a competitive field on a championship golf course. Today wasn’t our day and we couldn’t capitalize on our good start to the tournament, however plenty of positives and lots to build on as we prepare for the SBC championship in a couple of weeks.” He also commented on Thyr’s performance: “Hugo had another solid individual performance this week. A little different for him, as he battled well and showed his experience as a senior in round 1 and 2, by keeping himself in the game while not playing his best. Then capped off his tournament today with an impressive -4 while the golf course was set up the toughest it has been all week. It was one of the best rounds of the day and helped the team a ton.”
The Jaguars will next compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships scheduled for April 27-30.
