South Alabama men’s basketball will play its final road game of the regular season against Marshall on Monday, February 16, at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Jaguars currently lead the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 19–7 overall and 9–4 in conference play. Marshall holds a 16–10 overall record and is 8–5 in the conference.
In their most recent game, South Alabama overcame an 18-point deficit with less than eight minutes remaining to defeat Arkansas State 92–88 in overtime. Adam Olsen contributed key three-pointers during the comeback, while Chaze Harris scored a running three-pointer through contact and converted a free throw to tie the game near the end of regulation. Harris finished with 30 points, five assists, and three steals. Olsen added 27 points and made seven three-pointers.
Marshall enters Monday’s matchup after losing to Georgia Southern. The team features center Matt Van Komen, who is among national leaders in blocked shots per game. Jalen Speer leads the Sun Belt Conference in assists, averaging nearly six per contest, while Wyatt Fricks is Marshall’s top scorer at 15 points per game.
Since Marshall joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2022, South Alabama has won three out of four meetings between the teams. Last season’s meeting ended with a Jaguars overtime victory.
The Jaguars have erased deficits of at least 14 points to win on four occasions this season. Head Coach Richie Riley recently earned his 150th career victory at South Alabama, becoming only the third coach in program history to reach that mark.
Chaze Harris leads all players in the Sun Belt for most games scoring at least 30 points this season and ranks second in average scoring within the conference. South Alabama has performed well in close contests this year, winning fourteen games decided by ten points or fewer; six of those came down to final possessions.
Monday’s matchup was originally scheduled for January but was postponed due to winter weather conditions.
