South Alabama Jaguars women’s soccer team will play their final home match of the season against Texas State on Friday at 6 p.m. at The Cage in Mobile, Alabama. Texas State enters the game tied for first place in the Sun Belt Conference, while South Alabama is currently third.
In their previous meeting on October 24, 2024, the teams played to a scoreless draw at Bobcat Soccer Complex in San Marcos, Texas. Overall, South Alabama leads the series with 10 wins, one loss, and three draws against Texas State.
South Alabama comes into this match following a road win over James Madison University (JMU) on October 17. Sofia Mastracci scored her first collegiate goal and Sierra Giorgio made five saves to secure a shutout against JMU, which leads the conference in total goals, points, and game-winning goals.
Sierra Giorgio was recognized as this week’s Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after earning her sixth clean sheet of the season. She currently ranks first in the conference for goals-against average (0.721) and shutouts (six), and second in save percentage (0.822). The Jaguars lead the Sun Belt Conference in goal differential (19), goals-against average (0.786), and shutout percentage (0.571). Nationally, they are ranked 22nd in shutout percentage.
Texas State arrives after defeating Southern Miss 6-1 on October 18, with Alexis Montgomery and Jenny Ngankem each scoring twice. The Bobcats lead the conference in eight statistical categories and are ranked among the top-20 nationally in each; notably they are sixth nationally for shot accuracy.
The outcome of Friday’s match will have significant implications for seeding in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament. Texas State is tied with ULM at 18 points atop the standings; South Alabama has 17 points and could move into first place with a win.
