South Alabama is set to host its second tournament of the spring season at Jaguar Field with the South Alabama Invitational. The event will take place over three days, beginning Friday and running through Sunday. The Jaguars are scheduled to face West Georgia on Friday at 5:30 p.m., Loyola-Chicago at 2 p.m. and UT Martin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and North Alabama on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
This weekend’s games mark the first time South Alabama will play against each of these four opponents in program history.
Fans attending the tournament can expect several promotions throughout the weekend. Jaguar car decals will be distributed during all three days of competition. On Saturday, spectators who bring their men’s basketball tickets will receive free admission to the softball games. Sunday’s events include a softball bingo game and an opportunity for children to run the bases after the final matchup.
The Jaguars have had previous success when hosting this invitational, holding a record of 24-14 (.632) in these tournaments. Overall, South Alabama has posted a combined record of 73-34 (.682) across six named tournaments hosted by the program.
Several players have been key contributors this season. Gracie Dees has recorded hits in nine of her last ten games and has driven in runs in six of her last nine outings. Presley Lively has registered a hit in ten out of twelve games this spring and reached base safely in every contest so far. Lillie Stagner has also made an impact with hits in eight of her last ten appearances and RBIs in six of her last nine.
Pitcher Ryley Harrison currently holds a 3-2 record and ranks among the top ten pitchers in multiple conference categories, including innings pitched (tied for first with 39.1), strikeouts (second with 31), strikeouts looking (tied for first with nine), ERA (tied for fifth at 1.96), and opponent batting average (eighth at .227).
As a pitching staff, South Alabama leads the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) in total strikeouts (66), strikeouts looking (19), and shutouts (3). The team is also third in ERA at 2.96.
