South Alabama’s women’s soccer team secured a 2-0 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday at The Cage in Mobile, Alabama. Goals were scored by Ava Matherne and Bonnie Frost, both marking their first goals of the season.
The Jaguars recorded 26 shots, 10 corner kicks, and seven shots on goal during the match. In the 66th minute, Matherne made a run down the flank and scored her first goal of the year with a shot into the top-center of the net. Five minutes later, Sofia Ferrante delivered a corner kick that Frost headed in for her fourth career goal.
Goalkeeper Sierra Giorgio achieved her first clean sheet of the season with six saves.
“There was a lot of energy going in. They played a really, really good game … A lot to learn from it, and it’s another win at home and we didn’t concede a goal,” said Chris Hennessey, Head Coach.
“[Our potential] is huge. We had a couple of missed opportunities, and if we can fix that and score some goals, I think we’re going to be unstoppable,” said Ava Matherne, Forward.
South Alabama will next host Middle Tennessee on Thursday, August 28 at The Cage. Additional coverage is available through South Alabama Athletics’ official website (https://usajaguars.com) and social media platforms.
