South Alabama was defeated by No. 5 Auburn with a score of 10-0 on Mar. 24 at DABOS Park in Montgomery, Alabama.
The loss marks the first time this season that South Alabama has been shut out. Auburn took an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the second to go up 3-0. The Tigers extended their advantage with two additional runs in the fourth inning.
Right-handed pitcher Tyler Smith made his second appearance of the season for South Alabama, pitching 1.1 innings without allowing a run and recording a strikeout out of the bullpen. Max Miller also contributed on the mound, retiring three Auburn batters on just seven pitches during the sixth inning.
Designated hitter Paxton Bigby had a double and a single during the game, making him six for his last ten at-bats. Right-handed pitcher Jacob Haley made his season debut, while Nick Richardson started in center field for the first time and recorded a single at the plate. Starting pitcher Hayden O’Dell took his first loss of the year after allowing five earned runs over 3.2 innings pitched.
Looking ahead, South Alabama will return home for its third conference series as Old Dominion travels to Mobile for games scheduled Friday through Sunday.
