South Alabama and UAB are scheduled to face each other in a midweek baseball game at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama, on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. The game will be played at a neutral site, the home field of the Montgomery Biscuits.
The two teams have a longstanding rivalry dating back to 1979. This upcoming contest will be their 90th meeting. South Alabama currently leads the all-time series with 54 wins to UAB’s 35. It is also the first time that these programs will compete against each other at Riverwalk Stadium.
UAB enters the matchup with a record of 7-5 after securing its first series win of the season by taking two out of three games from Jacksonville in Birmingham. The Blazers lead the ASUN conference in home runs with 21 so far this season, including seven hit over the past weekend. They have managed to hit at least one home run in nine consecutive games. Although UAB lost its opening two series—against Florida and Cincinnati—they have won both of their midweek games this year against North Alabama and Alabama State.
South Alabama comes into Tuesday’s game following a sweep of West Georgia, marking its first weekend sweep since 2022. During that series, they outscored West Georgia by a combined total of 30-11 runs. On Saturday, South Alabama achieved a run-rule victory by scoring a season-high 21 runs compared to six for their opponent. Blake Guerin contributed significantly by going five-for-nine with two home runs and a double across the weekend. Daniel Gonzalez earned the win on Sunday and set a personal best with nine strikeouts.
The Jaguars’ offense has shown effectiveness with two outs, hitting .333 in those situations and recording 46 RBIs—more than half (53%) of their total RBIs have come when there are two outs. Brennon Wright leads South Alabama in hits (20) and batting average (.476), while his on-base percentage stands at .607.
Senior left-handed pitcher Hayden O’Dell is set to make his third start of the season for South Alabama on Tuesday night.
