South Alabama Jaguars women’s volleyball team has added Delaney Lawson to its roster. Head coach Jesse Ortiz confirmed that Lawson, a transfer from Utah State, joined the team for the winter semester and will compete in the upcoming spring season.
Lawson, originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, played as an outside hitter at Utah State after a successful high school career at Bellmont High School. At Utah State, she lettered for two seasons. During her sophomore year in 2025, she appeared in 26 matches with four starts and contributed 28 kills, 11 assists, one ace, 101 digs, and five blocks. Her top performances included eight kills and two blocks against San Jose State and ten digs along with her only ace of the season against Air Force.
In her freshman season in 2024, Lawson participated in all 29 matches and started 20 times. She recorded 170 digs, 76 kills, 21 assists, 13 aces, and ten blocks. Highlights included a season-high of 13 kills at Utah and a season-best of 14 digs versus Green Bay. She also had three aces against New Mexico and three total blocks at BYU. Lawson was recognized as a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete and earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors.
Before college, Lawson was a four-year letterwinner at Bellmont High School in Decatur, Indiana. She totaled 1,374 kills during her high school career and received multiple all-state and all-conference selections. She helped lead Bellmont to three state runner-up finishes and was ranked among the top outside hitters in class 3A.
Lawson also played nine years of club volleyball for Munciana Volleyball Club where she was named an All-American at age sixteen. She contributed to Munciana’s AAU 18 national title win in 2023.
Coach Ortiz expressed enthusiasm about Lawson joining the program: “Delaney is a tremendous volleyball player and trained by some of the best! She was a standout in her club career playing for the prestigious Munciana Volleyball Club. In the gym, she has a strong work-ethic and holds herself accountable. We are really excited about Delaney.”
