South Alabama men’s basketball announced on Mar. 29 the addition of Canadian forward Owen Kenney to its roster for the 2026-27 season.

Kenney, a 6-foot-7 player from Barrie, Ontario, recently completed a strong sophomore year with the Gee Gees. He averaged 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and was named to the third-team All-Ontario University Athletics team.

Known for his outside shooting ability, Kenney made 39.4 percent of his three-point attempts last season and hit as many as seven threes in a single game, totaling 52 three-pointers overall during the campaign.

“Owen is a versatile wing that can score at all three levels,” head coach Richie Riley said. “He will provide us with a 3-point shooting threat that plays with great IQ. I’m excited about his ability to be impactful as a wing in our zone. We’re excited to welcome Owen and his family.”

In his freshman year, Kenney played in all 22 regular-season games with five starts, averaging 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while also appearing in six postseason contests that led to a conference championship and U SPORTS bronze medal for his team. He earned U SPORTS All-Rookie Team honors along with OUA All-Rookie Team and Rookie of the Year recognition after that season.

Kenney is South Alabama’s second addition for its upcoming recruiting class, joining transfer guard Aaron Goldstein who signed earlier this month.
