This week, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama paid tribute to two fallen soldiers from the state ahead of Memorial Day. On the Senate floor, Tuberville recounted the lives and sacrifices of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Michael Wesley Hosey and U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jason Barfield.
Senator Tuberville introduced a resolution earlier this month to designate May 2025 as “Fallen Heroes Memorial Month.”
Speaking about Michael Wesley Hosey, Tuberville shared that “there was never a question in anyone’s mind as to what he wanted to do when he grew up.” Hosey, who graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School at 17, enlisted in the Army with his father’s permission. He lost his life on September 17, 2011, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Tuberville also spoke about Jason Barfield’s dedication to making a difference. Despite earning a four-year band scholarship to Huntington College, Barfield chose to enlist in the Marines. He was killed in action on October 24, 2011, after saving others from an explosion.
Reflecting on Memorial Day’s significance, Tuberville emphasized the sacrifices made by these young men: “We may never have met Michael or Jason, yet they courageously were willing to give their lives for their fellow Americans.”
Senator Tommy Tuberville serves Alabama in the United States Senate and is part of several committees including Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs.
