Daniela Palmeros recorded a final-round score of 68 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, moving her into a tie for 26th place. The tournament was hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostic Golf Course.
The South Alabama women’s golf team finished 10th out of 14 teams with a total score of 891 over three rounds. Florida secured first place with a score of 820, finishing 20 under par. Paula Francisco from Florida won individual honors with a combined score of 200, five shots ahead of teammate Siuue Wu and Virginia’s Mira Berglund, who tied for second.
South Alabama head coach Marcelo Huarte said about the event: “This was an elite event with some top-ranked teams, and it was a very valuable experience for us. We know we’re capable of competing with these elite teams, but we also know we have to keep getting better.”
On Palmeros’ performance in the final round, Huarte added: “It was a great final round for Daniela (Palmeros). This is a very difficult golf course, and she made some big improvements after last week’s event. It was a great bounce back performance that really shows her resilience.”
Other South Alabama results included Anna Behnsen tying for 41st place (223), Mercedes Aldana tying for 45th (224), Lilian Buehle tying for 59th (230), and Katelyn Foster tying for 65th (231).
South Alabama ranked fifth among participating teams in par-3 scoring average and placed in the top ten in both birdies and pars during the tournament. Palmeros led her team with nine birdies—tied for ninth-most among all players—and posted her third career sub-70 round.
Next on their schedule, South Alabama will host the Magnolia Collegiate on March 16-17 at Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
