South Alabama’s men’s tennis team was defeated by Old Dominion University with a score of 4-0 on Friday in Norfolk, Virginia. The loss brings South Alabama’s season record to 2-4.
In doubles play, the teams of Majchrzak/Nelson and Hamrouni/Steveker from Old Dominion secured victories over South Alabama pairs Hannig/Raemdonck and Frumholz/Yigin, respectively. One doubles match involving Accossatto/Bouyacoub was unfinished with the Jaguars trailing 4-5.
During singles competition, Old Dominion players Majchrzak, Olivier DeSar, and Obermair each recorded straight-set wins against their South Alabama opponents. Three singles matches were not completed due to clinch/clinch scoring rules; among them, Jules Caby was tied 4-4 in his second set when play stopped.
With this win, Old Dominion improves its all-time record against South Alabama to 8-4.
Head coach Nick Brochu commented on the match: “It was a very competitive match today. Doubles was high energy. We were right there. It was a heavyweight battle, which is always the case against Old Dominion. They always know we’ll bring our A-game, and they do the same. It was a fun battle, but I felt they put constant pressure on us and we kind of went down a little bit and cracked. That made the difference. The good thing is we probably had about three guys who didn’t play their best today, but competed extremely hard. We’re just trying to improve every day.”
South Alabama will next face Mississippi State on Wednesday, February 25 at 2 p.m. CT.
