FOIA Request to University of South Alabama Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at Mobile Courant have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of South Alabama. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
Specifically, we have asked for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have requested a total count of these students, broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking records related to scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount and source of each scholarship received by Chinese National students. Furthermore, we have requested information on any scholarships granted through affiliations with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Our inquiry also extends to university policies and procedures that monitor students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency in government actions through strategic use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
