Chaze Harris has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week following two standout performances that helped South Alabama secure road victories over Southern Miss and Arkansas State, according to an announcement from the league office on Tuesday.
Harris averaged 28 points, 4.5 assists, and 3 rebounds per game during the week. He shot 60.7 percent from the field and made 20 free throws across both games. His efforts were key in leading the Jaguars to wins against their conference rivals.
In South Alabama’s 84–78 win at Southern Miss, Harris recorded 26 points while shooting 9-of-11 from the floor. He also contributed four assists, three rebounds, and two steals in his 33 minutes on court.
During a comeback victory at Arkansas State that ended with a score of 92–88 in overtime, Harris scored 30 points. He was successful on eight of his seventeen shots, made both of his three-point attempts, and converted twelve out of fourteen free throws. Harris also provided five assists, four rebounds, three steals, and had a +20 plus/minus rating for the game.
A crucial moment came late in regulation at Arkansas State when South Alabama trailed by eighteen points with under eight minutes remaining. Harris hit a running three-pointer through contact with four seconds left and completed a four-point play to force overtime. The Jaguars went on to win in what was described as one of their most improbable comebacks this season.
Currently, Harris leads all players in the Sun Belt Conference with an average of 18.3 points per game.
This is Harris’ second time receiving Player of the Week honors this season; he previously won on December 23. It is also the sixth such recognition for South Alabama over the past three seasons and marks the third award for a Jaguar this year after Adam Olsen earned it earlier in January.
“After powering South Alabama to a 2–0 road swing with two dominant performances, Chaze Harris has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week,” according to the league’s announcement.
