U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) and eight colleagues in a resolution condemning the violent antisemitic protests that have erupted across college campuses. The resolution commends the heroic actions of University of North Carolina (UNC) fraternity members who defended the American flag after protestors attempted to replace it with a Palestinian flag. UNC interim Chancellor Lee Roberts is also praised for standing up to protestors, as are law enforcement officers in New York who have taken a stand against anti-American protestors.

The resolution states, “Since April 18, 2024, more than 1,500 individuals have been arrested on campuses of institutions of higher education for engaging in violent, anti-Israel and anti-American protests.” It goes on to acknowledge the thousands of patriotic law enforcement officials who have spent countless hours protecting US citizens from violence at these protests.

It further reads: “A group of patriotic fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina protected the American flag from being desecrated and replaced with a Palestinian flag by violent, anti-American and anti-Israel individuals. […] The people of the United States celebrate these patriotic fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina and have sought to recognize and reward their heroic actions against the violent, anti-American and anti-Israel individuals. […] Fraternities can serve as institutions that promote patriotism, brotherhood, and overall support for the common good.”

Joining Senator Tuberville were Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Ted Budd (R-NC), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Mike Lee (R-UT), Jim Risch (R-ID), and Marco Rubio (R-FL). U.S. Representative Dan Bishop (R-NC-08) introduced a bicameral resolution in the House.

Senator Tuberville has expressed his unequivocal support for Israel and his horror at the rise of antisemitism, particularly on college campuses. As a former educator and coach, he believes that teachers and professors have a grave responsibility to provide moral clarity to their students. He also condemns the Hamas-backed terror attacks on innocent Israeli and American citizens.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
