U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, along with Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, has written a letter to the U.S. Office of Personal Management (OPM) expressing concern over the removal of a webpage that detailed the amount of taxpayer-funded time spent by the federal workforce on labor union activities. The senators argue that this webpage is critical for congressional oversight and have requested information on the reason for its removal.

For over a decade, the OPM has been documenting the amount of "official time" taken by federal employees to engage in labor union-related activities during regular working hours. In their letter, the senators highlight that the OPM's latest official time report, issued in 2019, estimated that federal employees spent at least 2.6 million hours on labor union activities, amounting to roughly $135 million in taxpayer dollars.

The webpage in question has been available since 2013 and has been utilized by various administrations to provide transparency and accountability. However, under the current administration, the OPM seems to have ceased creating official time reports, which have been published since 1998. Senator Tuberville emphasizes that the American people deserve to know how much "official time" is being conducted and funded by their hard-earned taxpayer dollars.

Joining Senator Tuberville and Senator Blackburn in signing the letter are Senators Tom Cotton, Mike Lee, Ted Budd, Mike Braun, Bill Hagerty, James Lankford, Roger Marshall, and John Barrasso.

Senator Tommy Tuberville, a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, and HELP Committees, is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayer funds. The removal of the webpage detailing taxpayer-funded union activities raises concerns regarding the lack of information available for congressional oversight.

As the senators await a response from the U.S. Office of Personal Management, the issue remains a focal point for those who believe in the importance of transparency and fiscal responsibility in government.
